Cantilan belongs to one of the largest
municipals on the north-eastern coast in Surigao del Sur. The
municipal is located approximately 10 km south of
Carrascal municipal and is the first choice municipal
where people travel to buy fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. The
prices is a little bit cheaper here and the market start already at
4.30AM to be fully open at 7 -8AM.
Cantilan works in reality more like a
municipal to the people in Adlay, (instead of
Carrascal as it belongs to), because if
you want to earn money or get good connections it is easier here. A
new High School is built up and finished 2005.
In Cantilan lives some owners to estates in
Adlay, and it is to Cantilan people come to find in the land
register who the real owner is of the lot they want to buy. In the
Philippines it is possible to build a "lighter" house on a lot
without owning it, which means a house in wood easy to move if the
real owner need the area for other purposes or want sell it. That is
why you some times are able to find a really cheap house for sale,
because you will not buy the lot, only the house and the risk you
takes is to loose the place when the owner want to use it in the
future. It is then safer to check who is the owner and buy the lot
immediately instead but poor people can not afford that. If the
purpose to buy is to own the lot, it is only one way to do it
properly; to go to the office in Cantilan and
find the real owner of the estate and his address to get a leasehold
or sales contract printed out.
